Noel Wilson

  • Improvisation

Noel has coached, taught and directed at Stella Adler Studio since 1992, when he was “hand-picked” and recommended by Paul Sills, son of Viola Spolin and original director of Second City. Noel trained for twenty years with Paul in NYC and at his Wisconsin farm and is now one of a handful of top Spolin player/coaches uniquely informed by Sill’s refinements and insights, as well as an expert in story-form theater. In 2010, he was voted Best NYC Improv Instructor in BACKSTAGE Magazine’s Readers Choice Awards.  His Southern Rep/NOLA Project staging of The Lieutenant of Inishmore was nominated for five Big Easys, New Orleans’ prestigious theater awards, and won four, including Best Director of a Comedy. Acting credits include  Film: Wolf (dir. Mike Nichols) The Interpreter (Sidney Pollack) Changing Lanes (Roger Michell) Bourne Legacy (Tony Gilroy), MUTT (Erin Sanger,narrative short SXSW 2017 official selection), The Morning After ( Lauren Minnerath,narrative short, Cleveland International Film Festival 2018 official selection). Television: “Boardwalk Empire” (Martin Scorsese, Alik Sakharov), “GIRLS” (Lena Dunham), “The Leftovers” (Damon Lindelof, Keith Gordon, Carl Franklin), “The Mysteries of Laura” (Guy Norman Bee) “Law and Order” (Ed Sherin, Jace Alexander, Mario Van Peebles), “Third Watch” (Christopher Chulack). NYC Stage: 30+ Off and Off-Off productions and two national tours. He is an inaugural graduate of New Actors Workshop where he studied with Sills, Mike Nichols and George Morrison, and has worked extensively with The Barrow Group (Drama Desk Award Outstanding Off-Off Broadway Theater Company). Noel is also an accomplished bass player, very active in NYC’s electric blues scene.
