Graham Schmidt
- Scene Study
Graham Schmidt is a Brooklyn-based director and acting coach. Fluent in Russian, Graham lived in Russia for several years and trained at the Moscow Art Theatre. In addition to directing Chekhov’s major plays, Graham has also published three original translations, written extensively on Chekhov’s life and work, and was the editor of James Loehlin’s Cambridge Introduction to Chekhov. For six years, Graham has taught advanced acting and Chekhovian scene study courses at leading universities in the region and just completed a stint as Chay Yew’s Associate Director on the National Tour of Lauren Yee’s Cambodian Rock Band. Graham is passionate about the key role Chekhov’s drama played in Soviet dissident movements, the humanitarian impulse that inspires Chekhov’s work, and how his plays speak to what it means to be alive in America today.
