Abhirami Rao
Abhirami Rao is an American-Indian multidisciplinary performer whose work weaves together movement, voice, and narratives. Raised in Chennai (India), she moved to NYC this summer to attend the Music Theatre Intensive and Physical Theatre Lab at Stella Adler.
With a background in journalism, acting, singing, and Indian classical dance, her training has been extensive and deeply rooted in tradition: she studied Bharatanatyam under the guidance of A. Lakshmanaswamy for 18 years. She is also trained in Yoga, Carnatic music, improvisation, theatre, and clowning basics. She has had the privilege of performing at international festivals and several prestigious venues across India. Abhirami has also had the pleasure of interviewing some of the biggest Indian artists and covering their work in her time as an arts journalist.
When she’s not creatively engaged, Abhirami enjoys drinking ginger chai, people-watching, and catching new plays/musicals, while somehow still managing to get lost in the NYC subway. Now in the Big Apple, she cannot wait to see how her artistic journey moves forward! (unless she gets lost in the subway again.) @abhirami_rao
