New York, NY – August 22, 2024 – The Stella Adler Studio of Acting announces a new partnership with the iconic Comedy Cellar to offer a unique workshop, Stand-Up Comedy for Actors taught by Rick Crom. This workshop aims to provide actors with the skills and confidence to excel in the art of stand-up comedy, enhancing their versatility and stage presence.
The workshop will be led by Rick Crom, a long-time instructor at the Comedy Cellar. While the course will focus on the basics of stand up, the workshop will be enhanced by Rick’s rich insights into comedic theory and techniques, performance delivery, and how to use persona and style in comedic writing. Participants will learn the fundamentals of stand-up comedy, including comedy writing, joke structure, and the art of stand–up performance. The course will meet for seven sessions on Thursday evenings at the Stella Adler Studio of Acting starting September 26th. The program concludes with a showcase on Saturday afternoon, November 9th, at the Comedy Cellar.
Rick Crom is an American actor, singer, comedian, lyricist, and composer. He’s done stand up on HBO, MTV, Comedy Central, Showtime A&E as well as night clubs nationwide, Australia, Canada, among others. In 1984 he joined the now world famous Comedy Cellar as a regular act, and eventually permanent host for over 15 years. He still performs regularly at the Comedy Cellar where he has been teaching his acclaimed stand-up comedy class for the past 15 years.
One of the most renowned comedy venues in New York City, the Comedy Cellar boasts an intimate setting and history of launching important careers for nearly fifty years.
Since 1949, the Stella Adler Studio of Acting has trained some of the most important American actors such as Marlon Brando, Robert de Niro, Warren Beatty, Elaine Stritch, Kate Mulgrew and many more.
