Summer Conservatory

General Application Deadline: March 15th, 2026

The Summer Conservatory is one of the most popular summer programs at the Stella Adler Studio and in the nation.

Students from all over the world come to experience this rigorous foundation-building course which approximates a full term of our Professional Conservatory and NYU Tisch School of the Arts program. It is officially approved by the National Association of Schools of Theatre as a summer training program and contains the most comprehensive curriculum of the summer options. The program ends with an in-class presentation of contemporary and classical scene work. We find the growth demonstrated by the end of the nine weeks palpable, deeply encouraging and an affirmation of our belief that “growth as an actor and growth as a human being are synonymous.” Offered in the summer only, this is a 9-week, 24-hour-per-week intensive held in New York City. The Summer Conservatory is also offered in Los Angeles at the Art of Acting Studio.

Daytime or Evening Class Schedule Options

Daytime Schedule Option: The Summer Conservatory is traditionally a daytime program. Classes will be spread out Monday-Friday and will be anywhere from 9:00am-6:30pm. Specific class times will depend on the cohort’s schedule. Some days classes will finish earlier and other days classes will begin later. Students are typically in class for 4-6 hours a day. Evenings and weekends are free. A complete summer schedule for each cohort will be provided a couple weeks before the program commences.

Evening Schedule Option: As an alternative, the studio offers an option to train in the Summer Conservatory exclusively in the evenings. Classes for the Evening Summer Conservatory take place Monday-Friday nights between the hours of 5pm-10:30pm. Days and weekends are free for the student. The course list and hours per week of classes (24) remain the same as the daytime program. A complete summer schedule will be provided a couple weeks before the program commences.

Optional Audition Submission

The Summer Conservatory offers training opportunities for actors at all stages of their artistic journey, from emerging artists to seasoned performers. All applicants are only required to complete an entrance interview. However, if you would like to be considered for group placement with actors of similar or advanced experience, you have the option to submit a pre-recorded video audition. Please upload your audition to a streaming service such as Youtube or Vimeo as “Unlisted” and then submit the share link through the Video Auditions Form. The audition should include:

  • One contemporary monologue (based in realism, from a published play)
  • One classical monologue (pre-1800, heightened text)
Submitting an audition is optional and not required for admission. It simply helps us assess your skill level so we can group you with other actors at a similar stage in their training.
