The Sonia Sanchez Scholarship Fund

A central tenet of Tom Oppenheim’s Artistic Directorship has been to make the studio’s work accessible to all, to diversify access to Stella Adler’s work. Under Oppenheim’s leadership, the studio has given nearly $1,000,000 in scholarships for BIPOC students.

The studio is delighted to announce that the Diversity Scholarship Fund will now be named the Sonia Sanchez Scholarship Fund after board member, poet and activist Sonia Sanchez. The 2025 application process for the Sonia Sanchez Scholarship Fund is now open for the 3-Year Conservatory, Evening Conservatory or LA Conservatory for matriculation in Fall 2025. These scholarships will cover up to the full tuition cost for the first year of training with possible renewal and assistantship opportunities for the second and third years. The scholarships are one of several efforts to support the studio’s priority to develop a student body that reflects the society in which it exists.

Summer Programs: Students may also apply for this scholarship if interested in the 9-Week Summer Conservatory program.

Deadline to Apply: January 15, 2025
Audition and Callback Process must be completed by March 5th, 2025.

The criteria for application is:
1. Applicants should identify as BIPOC.
2. Applicants should demonstrate financial need.
3. Only complete applications will be considered.

To apply, please submit the following documents:
1. A completed Application Form for the Professional Conservatory
2. A Headshot (or any clear photo of yourself)
3. An Actor Resume (CV)
4. Two Letters of Recommendation
5. $70 Application Fee (To request an application fee waiver, please email a letter of hardship to ryan@stellaadler.com.)

After submitting the online application, you will receive an email with your default login information for ADLERnet where you can upload your photo and resume.

THE AUDITION:
Once a complete application is received, applicants will be invited to schedule a Zoom audition and interview. Please prepare two contrasting monologues: one contemporary/realism monologue and one classical monologue that should be no longer than 90 seconds in length each.

**These scholarships are only eligible for the 3-Year Conservatory, Evening Conservatory and LA Conservatory. We will also consider applications for the 9-Week Summer Conservatory program. They cannot be used for other training programs. More information on the Professional Conservatory can be found here. Here is a video on the Stella Adler Studio: An Artistic Home (Watch on Youtube).
